The Horde Movie Trailer

We all know that zombie movies make great horror. We also know that the French make great horror. But what happens when you get a French zombie movie? You get The Horde, slated for release August 29.

The eternal battle between police and criminal, already dramatized in several different movies, gets a whole new wrinkle when Zombie Apocalypse lands on their heads. Check out the trailer.

I’m not sure how this could be a bad thing–between the sheer amount of punch the trailer packed in, the track record of French horror, and the sheer fun of a zombie movie, it’s hard to imagine how this couldn’t turn out well. ⦁ Wicked es un musical que se estrenó en el año 2003 en el teatro George Gershwin en Broadway. Cuenta la historia de las Brujas de Oz antes de que Dorothy, Toto y los demás llegaran, y está basado en la novela Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, de Gregory Maguire (que ya ha sido publicado en castellano por Editorial Planeta como Wicked: memorias de una bruja mala, traducido por Claudia Conde). La música está compuesta por el compositor de teatro musical Stephen Schwartz y el libreto está escrito por Winnie Holzman.
El elenco original incluye a las actrices Idina Menzel y Kristin Chenoweth en los papeles principales como Elphaba, la Malvada Bruja del Oeste y Glinda, la Bruja Buena del Norte. ⦁ Wicked is a Tony Award-winning Broadway and West End musical, with songs and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman. The story is based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, a parallel novel of L. Frank Baum’s classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz.

⦁ Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. (In the album notes, Gregory Maguire explained that he derived the name “Elphaba” from the initials of L. Frank Baum.) Their friendship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard’s corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba’s public fall from grace. The plot is set mostly before Dorothy’s arrival from Kansas, and includes several references to well-known scenes and dialogue in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz as a backstory.

⦁ The musical debuted on Broadway on October 30, 2003. It was produced by Universal Pictures and directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. Its original stars were Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, and Joel Grey as the Wizard.

⦁ Although the production received mixed reviews and was panned by The New York Times, it has proved to be a favorite among patrons. The Broadway production’s success spawned productions in Chicago, Los Angeles, London’s West End, Tokyo, Melbourne, Stuttgart, and San Francisco, as well as two North American tours that have visited over 30 cities in Canada and the United States.

⦁ Wicked has broken box office records around the world, holding weekly-gross-takings records in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, St. Louis, and London, and the record for biggest opening in the West End (£100,000 in the first hour on sale). Both the West End production and the North American tour have been seen by over two million patrons.

⦁ The show was nominated for ten 2004 Tony Awards, winning those for Best Actress (Menzel), Scenic Design and Costume Design. It also won six Drama Desk Awards.

ack in 1972, Wes Craven’s feature-film debut The Last House on the Left pushed more than a few puritanical buttons, but it was a scene featuring a girl ing on demand that seemed to spark the most controversy. Some 30 years after its original theatrical release, this schlocky extrapolation of Ingmar Bergman’s The Virgin Spring is still the definitive horror-film-as-cautionary-tale. Dr. William Collingwood (Gaylord St. James) and his wife Estelle (Cynthia Carr) smother their daughter Mari (Sandra Cassel) with listen-young-lady care before the 17-year-old heads off to a Bloodlust concert with Manhattanite best friend Phyllis Stone (Lucy Grantham) in tow. Craven evokes the innocence of the love generation via hippie songs, a peace-sign necklace, and a carefree stroll through the woods (it’s there that Mari and Phyllis compare cup sizes and discuss romantic love). When the girls go looking for marijuana, they’re kidnapped, tortured, and killed by a group of Mansonesque escaped cons. It’s the ultimate Vietnam allegory, except there’s no room for peace here, just war. Craven heightens the dramatic tension by expertly cutting back and forth between the Collingwoods’ happy suburban home and the Stillo gang’s hike through the woods. Way before Drew Barrymore had her larynx cut in Scream, an irony-stoked Craven had the Stillo posse unintentionally making their way back to the Collingwood estate, and though this exploitation quickie’s infamous promotional hook read “It’s only a movie,” it could have easily been “It can happen in your backyard.”
